Sodium Lauryl Sulfate/Sodium Laureth Sulfate (SLS/SLES)
These are surfactants. They add to the foaming part of products. They’re found in facial cleansers, body washes, shower and bath gels, shampoos, toothpastes and bubble baths. They are also found in industrial strength cleaning products such as car wash soaps, laundry detergent, floor cleaners, engine degreasers. They work by corroding surfaces.
So why are we using something that strong on our scalp, and hair? How on earth can that be safe? Just for some added foam to satisfy us? No thank you.
Have you tried our shampoo? That shit foams up SO much and the only foaming agent in there is ACTUAL REAL soap.
Also, SLS/SLES can be contaminated with ethylene oxide and 1,4-dioxane which are two known human carcinogens. These can harm the nervous system and interfere with human development. They’re also skin and eye irritants.
From an environmental point of view, these don’t easily degrade, so once they’re rinsed down our shower drain/sink, they stay in our environment, polluting, for a long time.
